Chelsea makes history with Conference League

As noted by UEFA, Chelsea became the first club to win all UEFA club competitions, having won the Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and now the Conference League.

The trophy is also the first the men's team have won under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership. It is the club's fourth manager, Enzo Maresca, who won it under the new leadership. It is also the first trophy of Reece James' captaincy.

As noted by Squawka, Chelsea are the first English side to beat Spanish opposition in the final of a major European tournament since Liverpool vs. Alaves in the 2001 UEFA Cup. It ends a run of nine straight defeats for PL teams against sides from LaLiga.

Joe Cole hails Cole Palmer's brilliance

Cole Palmer turned the game around for Chelsea with two brilliant assists for Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson for the first two goals.

Former Blues, Joe Cole, who was on punditry duties for TNT Sports, could not contain his excitement at what he witnessed.

“Cole Palmer, absolute genius. We don’t produce these players. They don’t fall off trees. He took the game by the scruff of the neck tonight and made it happen,” he said.
“There aren’t many players in world football who can do what he does.”

Palmer told Micah Richards on CBS Sports that he had no comment when asked how Chelsea were going to celebrate winning the Conference League.

However, he admitted it is a big trophy for the fans, regardless of what some may think about a third-tier European competition.

“It’s big for the fans. It’s big for us. We’re going in the right direction,” he added.
