Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was born on October 27, 1967, in Gulak, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state, Nigeria. He began his education at Central Primary School, Gulak (1975–1981), and proceeded to Government Day Secondary School, Gulak, and Government Secondary School, Michika (1981–1986). Fintiri earned a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Maiduguri in 1992 and later obtained a postgraduate diploma in Policy and Strategic Studies from the same institution in 2004.
Political career
Fintiri entered politics in 2007 when he was elected to represent Madagali Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly. He was re-elected in 2011 and held various leadership roles before becoming Speaker in 2014. Following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako in July 2014, Fintiri served as acting governor until October 2014.
Governorship election
In the 2019 gubernatorial election, Fintiri, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner after a supplementary election, securing 376,552 votes against incumbent Bindo Jibrilla's 336,386. He was re-elected in 2023, again after a supplementary poll, with 430,861 votes, defeating Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 398,788 votes.

Fintiri is married to Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, and they have four children.
