APGA
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is a Nigerian political party established in June 2002. Headquartered in Abuja, the party espouses ideologies such as nationalism, federalism, pluralism, pan-Africanism, and progressivism. APGA's official colours are yellow, white, and green.
Leadership and organisational structure
APGA's national chairman is Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa. His leadership was affirmed by the Supreme Court in November 2024, resolving a protracted dispute over the party's chairmanship. Following the court's decision, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognised Ezeokenwa as the party's chairman.
Electoral performance
In the 2003 legislative elections, APGA secured 1.4% of the popular vote, translating to two seats in the House of Representatives, but failed to win any Senate seats. Its presidential candidate, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, garnered 3.3% of the vote in the same year's presidential election. The party achieved a significant milestone in 2011 when Rochas Okorocha was elected governor of Imo State under its banner.
Current political standing
APGA currently governs Anambra state and holds representation in both chambers of the National Assembly. The party has expressed openness to forming alliances with other political entities that share its progressive ideology, aiming to expand its influence beyond its traditional strongholds.
In December 2024, APGA's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting underscored the party's readiness to collaborate with like-minded parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, a prominent APGA leader, emphasised the party's commitment to progressive ideals and national development.
